Upcoming Classes

Make and Take Wednesday February 3 and Thursday February 4 we will be making these really cute mailboxes, using the new Sending Love Specialty paper from the Occasions Mini Catalog. I found the mail box at Target and fell in love with them. I knew you guys would too. I made this sample using a retired Designer Series Paper (DSP) that I had on hand. I will be making up another mailbox using the Sending Love DSP and the really cute Sending Love Epoxy Brads. So keep your eye on my blog to see how stinkin' cute they are.

If you have not noticed I added on a second day a week for Make and Takes. I am SSSOOOOOO excited to see I am filling up on Thursday Nights. For those of you who can make it on Wednesdays for the month of February and March. I will be having a special little gift (don't get to high of hopes of anything overly big) to show my appreciation for freeing up space on Thursdays for me to grow.

I am adding on Kids Classes this year as promised in my New Years Resolutions. My first one will be a Valentines Day class. February 9 6:30-8:30, $7.00 non club members $5.00 club members. All ages welcome I just ask if your child is under 8 please come with them to help them out. Please RSVP for this class. It should not take the 2 hours to finish but I wanted to make sure we had time if needed. My kids classes will be on a Saturday in the future, I just could not get it in my schedule for February (thanks to Coleton (Science Olympiad and Kelton (his acting lessons). Future classes will be set up in different age range times so older kids don't feel like they are working with little kids and the little kids are not over whelmed

January Club Technique- Using Rubber Cement

This month technique was actually better then

I thought when I first seen it. Once you practice a couple time you can figure out the feeling of the rubber cement. In this lesson I will try to point out the areas that I made the mistakes at first so hopefully you don't waste to much card stock.

Supplies needed: Glossy Card Stock, rubber cement (RC) (be prepared to show ID when purchasing. I giggled when they asked me for mine), Ink refill (we used Pretty In Pink & Real Red), Sponge (to apply ink), Whisper White card stock, Real Red card stock, Pretty In Pink card stock, 3/4" Grosgrain Ribbon, paper towel, and a adhesive remover to take up the rubber cement.

First step is to cut your glossy card stock to desired size we used 4 3/4 x 3 1/2. Take the brush that comes in the rubber cement (RC) and wipe off as much as possible so you only have a small amount on the brush. Apply random lines to the glassy paper. (be very careful not to put to much on. I used way to much on the first coat while practicing.) Remember the part where you put the first coat of RC is going to show up white on your finished product.

Once the RC is dry you want to take the lightest color of ink refill that you want to use. We used Pretty in Pink with a sponge cover the whole card stock.

You then will need to take another coat of RC and apply it to the card stock again. Apply it in random spots again. Remember where ever you put the RC this time will show the color you just applied.

Once the RC is dry again you want to take the second color of ink (we used real red) and apply it all over the card stock again.

Take a paper towel to wipe any excess ink off the card stock and either use the paper towel or an adhesive remover to remove the RC and TA DA you have a designed card stock.

Now you need to finish your card. We used Whisper White as our card base cut at 5 1/2 x 8 1/2 folded in half. A piece of Real Red cut at 5 1/4 x 4, Pretty in Pink 5 x 3 3/4.

For the smaller pieces be used a piece of Real Red 2 1/2 x 2 1/4, Pretty in Pink 2 3/4 x 2 1/2 and Whisper White 2 1/4 x 2

Here is how the class projects turned out. I think it is neat to see how different each one looks. I LOVE this technique. I hope you enjoy it too.

Northmont's Science Olympiad

Coleton is participating in a school event called Science Olympiad. He is loving every second of it so far. This group has to study different science topics and build different contraptions to do what ever the rules call for. As most of you know Coleton is my inventor of the group and loving this part of it. I really wished I knew how to make studying this fun for him in every subject.

This past weekend Northmont had their invitational, I am not really sure how many kids participated and exactly how many schools. I just know there was a boat load of people and about 17 schools and some schools had 2 teams. This is not only middle school, high school is included so make sure you double the numbers stated above. This picture just shows a sampling of how many people was here.

Brian (another parent) helped get the trophies and metals ready. He was feeling like a failure so he wanted to boost his own ego and pretended he won it all. If you knew him we would be glad that it was only pretend haha. Gotta love Brian.

Coleton did not have all of his events completed and dialed in like he would like them so he did not take his, the only one he took was his Junkyard Challenge and that will be talked about shortly.

Coleton help assist in a couple of extra events, one was Elevated Bridge and the other was Trajectory. Since this was his first competition ever he wanted to help out where ever needed and to get a feel of being watched by judges.

Coleton event that was his was Junkyard Challenge. His rules stated that he had to have a golf ball, 4 mouse traps and needed to come up with a device to set off all 4 mouse traps in a North, South, West, East pattern. Believe me I am so glad he has a coach to help him haha. He did not do as well as he would have liked to but considering it was a first he got 10th out 17 competitors.

Fun Size M&M Matchbook

I am making these really cute M&M holders for a thank you gift to be given to the volunteers who will be helping out at the Northmont Science Olympiad Invitational on Saturday. They turned out so darn cute I had to share how I made them.

(First I want to let everyone know some of the supplies I use is either not Stampin Up or retired products. I went with what supplies I had on hand, I had to make 40 of these so I figured this is the best way to use up product that I have had around my Stampin Studio for a while.)

The first step was to take an 8 1/2 x 11 piece of Whisper White cardstock and stamp a background stamp all over it to give me a simple background. I used a retired paisley stamp set that had a background stamp in it. (Stampin Up has several current background stamps that could be used. Most of them are on pages 132-134 in the current idea book & catalog) I also use Green Galore ink.

After it was stamped all over I cut the Whisper White cardstock down to 3 x 8 1/2. I am able to make 3 holders out of 1 piece of cardstock

Score at 1inch and at 5 inches. I also took a sponge and put ink around the edges to give it a little bit color (I like doing this, I do it to just about everything I use white cardstock with)

I took my remaining piece of 2 in scrap and cut it down to 2 x 1 3/4 and stamped it with the Thank you stamp (sorry non stampin up, I bought it for this event-if it wasn't for our volunteers we couldn't have our invitational) I also used another stamp out of the retired paisley stamp set to add a little more texture and again sponging around the edges.

I also cut a piece of Green Galore cardstock at 3 x 3 to layer. I adhered the two piece together placing the white closer to the top so I had room to add some ribbon

I added some ribbon and adhered it to my matchbook.

I used my Crop-a-dial to punch the holes and I thread the ribbon (non Stampin Up again sorry) down through the two holes crossed the ribbon underneath and back up through the holes and the ribbon lays real nice this way.




Last I stapled the fun size M&M to the Matchbook

Tuck the cover into the stapled flap and VOILA project completed.

I have made 26 of these in about 2 hour, they go together really quick. The longest part is threading the ribbon.

Thursday Make & Take for January 7, 2010

Are you proud of me or what??!!!!! I am proud of me, I know what we are making ahead of time. I am doing good on my goals for the year I am crossing my fingers I can keep them up.

This make and take we will be making a perpetual calendar. I have make mine for my desk and I will post a picture of it next week. This box is really easy. I have only basic stamping on it (remember class is only an hour). I will have the full directions on it next week on here with suggestions to make it a little more elaborate.
